School Social Work Services
Hello, my name is Jennifer Crawford, MSW, LICSW, and I am the School Social Worker at United South Central Public Schools. I graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Social Work and minoring in Psychology from Mankato State University. In 2009, I completed my Master of Science Degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, majoring in Social Work with an emphasis on understanding and working in rural communities. I have passed the Minnesota Board of Social Work licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and I am licensed through the Minnesota Department of Education as a School Social Worker.
I am so excited to be starting my 15th year at USC! I feel very fortunate to work with such wonderful students and families in our district, as well as the highly skilled and caring professionals in our school system.
I have included information regarding Social Work Services available to students and families of USC. As the School Social Worker, it is my job to be a link between the home, school, and communities of USC. School Social Workers promote and support student's academic and social success by providing specialized services.
Specialized Services may include:
*Assessment of student needs through observation, interviews and testing.
*Treatment of mental and emotional disorders.
*Crisis prevention and intervention strategies and assistance.
*Working with students in both general and special education.
*Advocacy for students, parents/guardians, and the school district.
*Education and training for parents/guardians such as Love and Logic Parenting Classes or in-home services.
*Information and referral services both within and outside the school system.
*Professional case management for students.
*Collaboration and consultation with community agencies, organizations, and other professionals.
*Staff and policy development at USC.
*In-home family support.
*Peer Mediation Coordination and Training
*Big Rebel/Little Rebel Student Mentoring Support Services
*Individual and group therapeutic services.

School Social Workers help educators by:
*Developing and implementing plans to enhance student's school success.
*Providing ongoing emotional and behavioral support to students.
*Communicating information about how factors such as family, culture, socioeconomic status, physical and mental health can affect students' performance.
*Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect situations.
*Coordinating community resources to meet students' needs.
*Identifying and eliminating barriers to educational success.
